Q. What is an “integrity fingerprint” (SHA-256)?
It’s a unique code calculated from a file — like a digital fingerprint. The same file always produces the same code, but if even one character changes, the code comes out completely different. We record this fingerprint so anyone can re-check it later and prove the file wasn’t altered.
Q. Why does that matter for evidence?
In court you often have to show that a backup or report is the real, unaltered one. Because the fingerprint changes the instant anything is edited, a matching fingerprint is strong, verifiable proof that the file is exactly the original — added, removed, or edited content would all show up.
Q. Can someone fake or reverse it?
No. SHA-256 is one-way — you can make a fingerprint from a file, but you can’t rebuild the file from the fingerprint, and it’s practically impossible to craft a different file with the same fingerprint. Think of it as a tamper-evident seal.
Q. Where do I see it?
Every source file and every generated report is fingerprinted. The codes appear on your downloads, inside each PDF’s chain-of-custody header, and in the extraction summary — so the proof travels with the evidence.
